You Had Me At Hello - Mhairi McFarlane

4 out of 5 - Never got bored, I was always kept interested...

You Had Me At Hello could be categorised as a typical Rom Com, with your leading lady falling in love with your leading male. I'm a sucker for these kind of books so I was immediately drawn in from the synopsis. I will review the book best I can without giving away too much.

Rachel is a stuck in a dead end relationship with her so called childhood sweetheart Rhys, planning a wedding neither of them really want, they both know they don't belong together and are miserably plodding through life with each other as to avoid the upheaval of separation (and the possibility of never finding any one else and dying alone, to put it bluntly) until one day Rachel snaps and ends it, walks out and never looks back. The story is about how Rachel moves on from her secure life with Rhys and into the real world full of possible rejection, lonely nights and lots of wine.

Luckily Rachel has a job she is good at, and friends who will stand by her no matter what. God knows she's going to need them. Without rewriting the story and telling you every twist and turn, this book has lots of ups and downs, Rachel is tested emotionally, her relationship with her colleagues and her friends are strained, and throughout all of this she is slowing realising that her dead and buried feelings for Ben her best friend from University may not be so dead afterall when she rekindles their friendship after 10 years.....problem is he's happily married.

There's quite a few jumps from past to present which helps give you a better understanding of Rachels relationships with Rhys and Ben, and how she ended up in the situation she's in now. This is a very well written book, with enough drama and humour to keep you both intrigued and entertained. Give it a bash, if you like this kind of book, you won't be disappointed. I wasn't.
