#WynonnaEarp - Writers Appreciation Post

How on Earth do I start this therapy session.....I've got so much to say after this weekend (for those living under a rock - Friday was the Season 4 finale of Wynonna Earp....yea I said Season, what you gonna do about it) I have so many feelings, so many words and so many thanks to give. So so many. Soooooooo many! But this post isn't about that, I'll save those feelings for another day. Today is about a group of amazing people that have given us so much.

My first appreciation post was to all the amazing Fans, but this one is all about the writers of this magically wonderful Shit Show of theirs (ours). However how does one fully thank and acknowledge the true brilliance of the Emily Andras writing dream team. I can't... it's impossible. I'm not a writer, I don't and won't ever fully understand the blood, sweat and tears - not to mention heart and soul - that goes into what they do and the talent they have.

What I do know is that they make it look so effortless, the end result is perfection, the main story arc across each season flows brilliantly with the individual stories for each character. They write this show in such a way that it makes it easy for you to go back and watch it again and find so much more you didn't notice first time around. So many small nods and details to link future stories which shows how good they are. They don't just write and tell the story of one episode at at time, or even one season, they plan ahead, always thinking of everything so there's nothing too random, everything links in some way. They also know how to make you soooooo happy you could burst while also breaking your heart into a million pieces, literally in one scene. The end of 4x06..... need I say more!

Alongside all the complex story and character progressions, how they then also manage to throw in totally random yet perfectly fitting episodes is beyond me - for example a Gnome seeking a replacement for his destroyed (literally smashed to pieces) wife Monique...I mean seriously..... some people may ask 'WHY?' (who are you and why are you asking stupid questions) however all I ask is 'HOW?' - also for the record, that episode is full of some of my favourite WynHaught moments and one liners...."Shut up with your mouth" "Tell Waverly I love her! - Sure, Make me look like an asshole" "Guaca-cuse me" "Well, that's very narrow-minded Nicole! Love is Love" Oh I could go on, trust me, just watch it already - actually if you haven't seen it yet, what the hell are you doing here.... get on it, immediately!!

Where was I, I've distracted myself.....

Oh yea - I remember, I was gushing (eurgh, hate that word) about the Top Shelf brilliance of the creators that gave us the above examples I distracted myself with. They are brilliant, I know I've said that already but it's worth repeating. They provide us with stories we can laugh at, we can cry at, lose ourselves in, escape our own realities while also feeling completely seen and believed in, they go against the grain, changing the narrative in so many ways. Pushing boundaries to ensure the fans get what they want and deserve. They understand that the underdogs deserve to shine and that true representation matters. No actually thats unfair, they don't just understand it, they thrive and excel at it. At times it makes you question how we got so lucky, and how we deserve them. The stars truly did align with this team. Personally I can't thank them enough, my words aren't enough but they're all I've got.

Thank you for 4 excellent seasons, 49 fantastic episodes, for all the laughs and the tears, I sincerely hope we get more, in whatever way possible

In the words of Tim "I'm not saying goodbye, I'm saying Thank you"

#WynonnaEarp - Fan Appreciation Post

Welcome back to another addition of Wynonna Earp Therapy! Today its all about the fans, each and every amazing one!

I've already touched on this briefly in my last post but seriously, I've never known anything like the Wynonna Earp Fandom - AKA Earpers! The lengths and depths they will go to for this show is nothing shy of phenomenal. As already explained, I only just found this show a few months ago so have been spending a lot of time recently researching it's journey, watching interviews online, listening to podcasts (yes I'm obsessed, hence the need for this therapy blog 😊) and what has been abundantly clear throughout all of this obsessive research is that the fans will literally fight to the actual DEATH for this show.....and I'm not even joking!!

If you hadn't heard already, the show was recently cancelled by Syfy and the fans are currently on a mission to help find a new network to #BringWynonnaHome - but this isn't the first time the fans have fought like this. The show almost didn't get the amazing 4th season we are currently revelling in. Reading the stories about how the Earpers rallied together are inspirational, taking over twitter with #FightForWynonna, fundraising amongst themselves for Bill-Boards on Times Square.....like SERIOUSLY!!! It's immensely beautiful the love they have for this show, its Cast and Crew. So I'm keeping everything crossed they can do it again.....if anyone can it's Earpers! They deserve it, every single one of them.

Not only do they fight hard for what they love, from the short experience I've had as an Earper, they're all soooooo bloody nice! It's gross (joke), it's so refreshing to see twitter filled with so much support and love, not only for the show they all adore, but for each other, and newbies like myself. Twitter is notorious for negative experiences, you read about it regular, I've had a few run ins myself with 'keyboard warriors' and it's exhausting. You also hear about fandoms that are full of egos and arguments about who is the biggest fan etc. Earpers (from my short experience) are nothing like that. They're all always willing each other on, checking in with each other, even offering to help other fandoms get their show trending (which by the way wasn't met with the same response in return - point proven). And don't even get me started on the fan art I've seen floating around - seriously impressive stuff!

Anyway, I'm rambling as usual, what I'm basically trying to say is, this show is brilliant, Emily Andras is perfection, the writers are superb, the cast are all exquisite and the crew including every single person behind the camera are simply flawless. However, Earpers are the reason the show is so alive, everyone involved in creating it wouldn't have the drive and passion they do if they didn't feel the love and appreciation from the fans, so for that I say thank you. Without you all at the beginning creating fan accounts on social media, running fan podcasts (I'm looking at you Bonnie & Kevin, the original Earpers!), organising fan led Earper Con's around the world, the list goes on. Plus all the fans that have joined along the way, we wouldn't have what we have today without any of you. Personally I'm grateful, and I know for a fact many other people are too.

Keep the fight going. We're all in this together now and always! #WynonnaEarp #BringWynonnaHome

#BringWynonnaHome - I'm in trouble!

Hey, Hi, Hello - long time no speak....yea I'm aware I'm technically talking to myself! I haven't wrote anything in a long looooooong time. To be perfectly honest, I completely lost interest in it, lost my flair so to say, and any desire to write anything, life got in the way or more so nothing really fired me up enough to want to dust the keyboard off, until now that is. And oh boy, when the flame re-ignites, it bloody burns deep! I'm in trouble, deep deep trouble!!

Lockdown has been a bitch, let's be honest, it's been a huge long turd of a year, however one thing it did gift a lot of us is time. Time to sit around the house, time to not do jobs we'd already put off for years, time to dwell on things out of our control but most importantly, time to catch up on the gazillion tv shows we'd pushed to one side, oh and snacks - a LOT more time to eat snacks.

And here comes why I'm now in trouble....after working our way through many recommendations we'd received over the years...The Good Place, Lucifer, The Undoing, Jane The Virgin.....thoroughly enjoyed them all, we recently then moved on to Grey's Anatomy - which we didn't quite fully comprehend how much of a commitment that would be starting from the beginning so we needed something totally different to watch along side it. Insert Wynonna - the bag of chaos we'd love to live with! 👏

I'll be 100% honest, I'd never actually heard of Wynonna Earp - I know I know, I should choke on those words now and I'm utterly ashamed to even put them in writing out into the world forever, but it's true, Amy had been saying for a few weeks that we should give it a try but I was pretty hooked on Grey's so kept putting it off, until one weekend when we'd binged Grey's all morning and needed to escape from the hospital for a bit so we decided to take our first trip to Purgatory. Best. Decision. EVER!

There's so much I want and need to say about this show but 100% not just in 1 measly blog post, this show and the people deserve so much more than that, I may even re-name this whole website as a mark of respect.....too far? Or not far enough? Should I rename myself???

This post is just to introduce myself as a brand new Earper and to admit how deep we've fallen - so deep that I'm having to use my blogging site (for the first time in 8years!) as a way of releasing all of this passion from my brain, use it as a sort of personal therapy session. Even if no one reads it, I need to let it out into the world.

Also I want to send out some love and appreciation for the cast and crew behind this show, they are literally a wonderful collection of artistic mastery, each and every one of them, it's almost like they were born to work and create this masterpiece together. There's a perfect balance of bat shit crazy and raw authenticity in each and every episode, how they manage that is beyond me. Finding this show through one of the most challenging years of our time has been a blessing for us - although contradiction alert - I also wish we'd been there from the start, I feel like a fraud Earper - a Frauper! The fanbase are so dedicated and passionate, I feel like we've missed out on so much over the years, and now we may be running out of time - learning that it may actually be coming to a premature end just breaks my heart, I'm trying to think of ways I can help, little old me with my zero reach....however if this post is read by only one person and they decide to give the show a try, then I'll be a happy little Earper!

Please stick with me during my over the top ramblings about my love for a show I've only just discovered, but if you've watched this show you'll know exactly how I'm feeling.....if you haven't....what the hell are you waiting for, jump in, both feet and enjoy the ride! You'll sharp discover that This May Be A Shitshow, But It's OUR Shitshow!

Reading: Book vs Kindle

Now this for me is a touchy subject, it makes me angry that people would rather buy a gadget and download an eBook rather than buy a proper book
